Special Events and Services
We love to get together at Westminster Presbyterian, whether it’s for worship or fellowship! We have special gatherings each year that are becoming traditions, and invite you to join us!
Hanging of the Greens
We begin our Advent season each year with a special service during the 11:00 hour known as the Hanging of the Greens. We use a lessons and carols type service to decorate our sanctuary for the Advent Season.
Christmas Cantata
Each year, our Adult Choir rehearses and prepares a Christmas Cantata on the third Sunday in Advent. For the past two years, we have enjoyed having some special angels from Westminster Elementary School join us! This year’s Christmas Cantata was “The Greatest Gift” written by Mark and Shelly Hamilton. We are so grateful for the leadership of our choir director, Nita McMillan and her ability to share the love of Jesus in the church and beyond!
You can view this year’s cantata here!
Christmas Eve Candlelight Service with Communion
This special service is a favorite! We usher in the birth of the Christ Child after a long season of waiting and anticipation on Christmas Eve night with a service of Lessons and Carols with Communion. This service takes us back to that first Christmas in Bethlehem and we hear the stories of the Good News that was shared with Mary, Joseph, the Shepherds and the Angels.
Holy Yoga
In January of 2019, we offered a “Holy Yoga” class lead by our own Clara Lesan, who was then working toward her yoga certification. We gathered for six weeks of Scripture and Stretching. We hope to be able to offer this again!
Presbyterian Women’s Retreat with other local PW groups
In January or February of each year, we join with Ft. Hill Presbyterian in Clemon and Richland Presbyterian in Westminster for a Women’s Retreat. We enjoy a day of Bible Study, fellowship, and lunch!
For Information about this year’s Women’s Retreat, click here! Rev. Audrey will be the keynote speaker this year, and the topic will be “Say Yes!”
Shrove Tuesday
We kick off the Season of Lent with a Shrove Tuesday Pancake supper prepared by the men of the church! This last meal before the Season of Lent begins gives us an opportunity to prepare ourselves for the six week long season of fasting and sacrifice. We love to eat, so we have a great time any time we can get together for a meal!
Holy Week Services
For over 50 years, the Presbyterian Churches of Oconee County have been joining for worship services during Holy Week. This time-honored tradition has transformed over the years, and we now have services Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday of Holy Week. We rotate through the churches in Oconee County, with a different church hosting each night.
Easter Services
We have a sunrise service followed by breakfast beginning at 7 am, followed by a traditional 11:00 service of celebration with communion at 11 am! These special services give us an opportunity to celebrate Christ’s Resurrection and our new life in Christ!
